It took me a year and 15 interviews to find the right Builder. I decided on Castle Rock Builders because 1) The single floor plan, Benfield. 2) John’s communication skills. 3) Seeing their quality homes during the construction phase. 4) Meeting Tom onsite.
My home started construction much later than expected due to COVID. The building permit was received 14 months (due to Howard County) after the contract was signed, Due to the 14 month wait, we had various follow up meetings and email communications to revisit construction details. John and Chuck helped a great deal during this frustrating period, including finalizing the floor plan changes and providing practical recommendations to re-select materials due to supply shortage. I was impressed that Castle Rock Builders was able to focus on my home building project without delay on their end.
Since my entire home construction was during the pandemic, the labor shortages and supply chain issues also impacted the construction schedule. My original plan was altered greatly. Tom and John had done a good job managing home owner’s expectations. They helped me to better plan homeowners responsibilities, such as when to shop for and reschedule deliveries of appliances, furniture, lighting fixtures… etc. Tom and John also took their time to come to my meetings about the kitchen & bath vendor to refine the cabinet configuration and confirm the vendor’s delivery time. I also had some custom items that required special installs. Tom and John were able to meet most of my request :-).
I’ve been a home owner for over 20 years but I have no prior experience building a home. So I hired an outside consultant for professional advice. During the construction phase, I asked massive questions and was unable to make quick decisions as CRB expected. Tom and John were patient and responsive with all of my questions. I gradually gave my trust to CRB. I’ve heard so many horrible stories about home builders but CRB is one of the few good builders. I moved into my new home in May of 2022. I am happy with CRB’s work and I believe I chose the right builder.

Two words: CUSTOM and Quality. We wanted a CUSTOM home built on our lot. Castle Rock Builders truly delivered. We worked with Chuck to customize (not just a few options but our own details) into the house. From cathedral ceilings change to custom master bath to custom flooring. Chuck made the design our home. We were able to choose many of our own items which is unheard of for most builders. Quality: every aspect of the house was done very well. The quality of items and workmanship or actually craftsmanship was top notch. Pleasantly surprised with a custom home, there were really no big surprises. There were upgrades and changes, but Chuck and John keep excellent records and explained every detail. John provided weekly updates which kept us informed of the week’s activities. “My wife and I custom designed our home and interviewed quite a few builders looking for the right one. Rather than asking for a pre-screened list of references from each builder, we went to the county and got a list of building permits pulled by each. We sent letters to some of those homeowners asking for feedback. Everyone who had built with Castle Rock had nothing but good things to say. Unlike many of the other builders, Castle Rock was also not afraid of all of the crazy specs/requirements we threw at them (sorry Chuck!). When building of the house I would occasionally notice things that a contractor had done incorrectly and would call Tom up to let him know. Tom would answer the phone already knowing why I was calling and would tell me he already had the subcontractors back on the way to fix it. There were also a few unfortunate issues outside of Castle Rock's control that they handled very well. For example, when we were getting close to our final walk through our expensive new refrigerator’s ice maker solenoid split and leaked water all over the new hardwood floor. Castle Rock immediately pulled up the flooring to replace it and to let the sub floor dry out. We've now been in the house for a full year and we are still in love with it. Thanks Tom, John, Chuck, Sean, and the rest of the people who had a hand in working on our home!”

“My Experience with Castle Rock Builders”
My wife and I had the pleasure of working with Castle Rock Builders for our new Brentwood model home. In short, it was a terrific experience and their “out of box” product is incredibly beautiful. After searching for a customer builder, we found that Castle Rock’s building/feature standards and pricing vastly surpassed the local competition. A standard home design would include features and amenities that are normally associated with higher end builder models but at lower or similar pricing. We have crown molding, high quality appliances and lighting and flooring allowances that were sufficient for us to build our dream home!
Their partners, John, Chuck and Tom were customer centric, patient, competent and communicative. Their business model is extremely efficient with John leading all of the Sales and customer facing tasks (poor guy, I got the award for most questions in a single build project), Chuck managing the project “behind the curtain” to include material acquisition, planning and procurement of the customer’s selected equipment and Tom leading the on site builder team to build out our dream home. They work very very well together and are efficient how they manage the project and their clients.
We are moving in within a week and couldn’t be happier. Everything we could have asked for from a builder partner was met and surpassed. After interviewing several builders regarding the construction of my dream home, we decided on Castle Rock Builders. I knew after the first meeting with John and Chuck that these were the guys I wanted to build my dream home. Unlike other companies, they made me feel like my house was their only project, which I knew it wasn’t. They helped me through the process from start to finish, including financing, permits, and of course construction. I had constant communication with John who was always willing to answer my questions no matter when I called. Castle Rock truly makes you feel like family when you build a house with them. Once the construction started, I was getting weekly emails on the progress. I never had to wonder what state my build was currently in. As for the construction, all I can say is superior! After being nickeled and dimed on upgrades from others builders I met with, I was shocked to see what Castle Rock considered as “included in base price”; options such as crown molding, thicker walls with blown-in installation between every floor, hardwood, etc. I could go on and on. The best surprise came when I realized how energy efficient the house actually is. To this date, after being in the house for four years, we still haven’t had an electricity bill over $175 (our house is 4k sq ft). That’s says a lot about how solid Castle Rock builds their homes. All in all, John, Chuck and Tom built the perfect house for my family! They truly care about the customer and their homes. If you want a great house, built by great people, Castle Rock is the builder for you! I can’t thank them enough.

My husband and I knew that ultimately building a home was what we wanted to do. After meeting with several other home builders, we were left disappointed and discouraged until we came across Castle Rock. From the initial conversations with John we could tell they were the builder for us! John was quick at getting back to us about any questions, modifications to plans, pricing etc. Everything is very clear in the specs as to exactly what you are getting for the price so there are no surprises along the way. You would be amazed at what is included in their specs compared to other builders. Other builders tend to nickel and dime you over everything but not Castle Rock! And of course, the option to upgrade is always there too if you are looking for something beyond what is included, which we did upgrade here and there (finish wise) and the pricing for that was extremely fair as well. Throughout the construction process you are updated weekly with exactly what is going on in your build. Communication is extremely important when building a home and they are on top of it! As with construction some issues may arise and for us it was very minor, and I assure you when we reached out, they were addressed and corrected. Castle Rock brought our vision to reality. John, Chuck and Tom truly care about the product they are delivering, and they actually deliver an excellent product! We love our very own Castle built by Castle Rock!
